Welcome to the Root Chakra ~ Muladhara
In this instalment you will learn about the signs of a balanced and imbalanced Root Chakra and discover ways to help keep your body in harmony and at ease. As I had said previously, trust in your intuition, take only the information that feels right for you and leave the rest to one side. If you haven't already done so, you might want to read "Introduction - A beginners Guide to Chakra Balancing."

The Root Chakra
The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine in the perineum area and extends down to your toes. It is your chakra of belonging, safety, survival, abundance, endings and new beginnings. Connecting you to Mother Earth, your family and your Ancestors. The root chakra is represented by the colour red and the element Earth.

Signs of a Balanced Root Chakra
When your Root Chakra is balanced, you are full of confidence, you feel emotionally strong and able to take care of yourself. You feel safe, supported and protected. All your basic needs are met. You are healthy, assertive, full of passion, harmony and determination. You easily accept change and have a strong sense of belonging to a community.

Signs of an Imbalanced Root Chakra
With an imbalanced Root Chakra, you lack confidence, have low self-esteem, feel hopeless and disconnected. You may show self-destructive behaviour, emotional disharmony, have difficulty releasing emotions and resist change. You find it hard to trust and believe that you can only rely on yourself. You can suffer from anxiety, panic attacks or depression. You might suffer from chronic lower back pain, eating disorders, constipation or have issues around fertility.

Questions for your Root Chakra
These are some questions you may wish to ask yourself:
* Do I feel safe? If not, why not? If yes, how would I define 'safe' for me?
* What is causing my lack of confidence or my low self-esteem? I feel so confident right now, why is that?
* Was I allowed to show my true emotions as a child? Am I allowed to fully show and embrace my feelings & emotions as an adult?
* What are the triggers for my anxieties and panic attacks? What are the possible root causes?
* What can I do to meet my basic needs?
* Do I feel part of a community, family or tribe?
Can you think of any other questions to ask yourself?
Root Chakra Guided Meditation
Listen to the 10-minute Reiki Root Chakra guided meditation.
State out loud or quietly to yourself: “I am open to receive messages and guidance.” Allow any thoughts, memories or emotions to rise to the surface with little resistance. If any thoughts are persistent, simply state, “I acknowledge you, thank you,” and bring your focus back to your breath. Once you have finished listening to the guided meditation, take a moment to sit and reflect on your experience.

Journal
Write down anything that came up during the guided meditation – thoughts, memories, sensations, feelings and emotions.
Here are some questions you may wish to ask yourself.
* How did this session make me feel?
* Did any random thoughts come up?
* Did any old memories show up?
* If so, how did they make me feel emotionally?
* Is there anything that needs addressing?
* Is there anything from my past that still needs healing?
* What can I do to begin resolving any issues?
* What can I do to start creating positive changes in my life?
* If my needs are not being met, what can I do to change that?
Referring back to the 'Signs of an Imbalanced Root Chakra’ and 'Signs of a balanced Root Chakra’, write down anything that applies/resonates with you. Be completely honest with yourself.
Look back through your journal at notes you first made in "Introduction - A beginners Guide to Chakra Balancing." to see if anything resonates with the Root Chakra. Take your time to focus on any issues. How would you advise your friend if they had these issues? Write this down. Often, we already have the answers. Do seek professional help if needed.
Spend at least three days, preferably more, focussing on your Root Chakra, journaling anything that comes up over the days ahead. Remember, you cannot change your past, so what can you do to create changes as you move forward?
Below, you will find some ways to help support a healthy and balanced Root Chakra, which in turn will help to bring more harmony to your overall well-being.

Feeding your Root Chakra
Think about some of your recent meals. Were they mainly beige in colour or did they contain some colours of the rainbow? If they were mostly colourful, that's great, but if your meals were mostly beige, let's see if you can add some colour this week.
Eating a variety of fruit and vegetables is so important to your overall health. Think about your current daily intake. Are you eating enough? Do you stick to the same fruit and veg, or do you like to try out new flavours that are in season? When focussing on feeding your Root Chakra, try and eat red and brown colour fruit and veg and also include as much root vegetables as possible, no matter the colour.
* Cherries, strawberries, apples, raspberries, pomegranates and tomatoes are great, especially if they are in season.
* Root vegetables can include sweet potatoes, parsnips, radishes, turnips, carrots, beetroot, onions and garlic.
* You can also spice up your meals by adding ginger and turmeric or use these to make tea.
Whenever you eat red fruit and root vegetables, imagine you are actively sending healing to your Root Chakra. You can simply state, “I am sending love to my Root Chakra,” or “My Root Chakra is at ease.” Create a simple mantra that resonates with you.

Essential Oils for the Root Chakra
Patchouli, Bergamot, Nutmeg, Myrrh, Cedarwood and Ginger are beautiful oils for the Root Chakra. Lavender oil is a great all-rounder and can be used for all chakras. You can also use your favourite essential oil or oil blend.
Adding a few drops to a room diffuser, is a lovely way to release the essential oils into the air. Try mixing your essential oil with a carrier oil and gently rub onto your pulse points - wrist, inner elbows and behind your ears. You can bring your full focus to your Root Chakra by massaging your lower back, legs and feet.
Red candles can be used, to help bring focus to your Root Chakra, they can be scented or unscented. White candles can also be used to support all chakras. You can also burn incense sticks or use a room spray. Remember it’s always about what feels right for you and your positive intentions.

Crystals for the Root Chakra
Red and brown crystals are usually associated with the Root Chakra such as Red Jasper, Red Tiger Eye, Ruby, Bloodstone and Brecciated Jasper. Other crystals which can be used to support the Root Chakra includes Black Tourmaline, Hematite and Obsidian. Clear Quartz is a powerful crystal which can be used for all chakras, either alone or with other crystals to amplify their affects.
You can hold a crystal in your hand or place it on or near your Root Chakra, whilst meditating and anytime you need to focus. Carry a red crystal around with you to use as a grounding or protection stone. If you do not have crystals, you can visualise or imagine red light surrounding you. You might have a special stone or pebble that you’d like to use instead of a crystal. This is absolutely fine, as it may hold a deeper meaning for you.

Things to do to boost the Root Chakra
* Wear red clothing, accessories and jewellery.
* Seek out the colour red around you.
* Carry a red, brown or clear crystal in your bag or pocket to help keep you focused.
* Get creative by using different art mediums. Focus on red and earthy tones.
* Get as close to nature as possible, whatever the weather.
* Walk on the grass instead of following a concrete path.
* Walk barefoot on natural surfaces - grass, wood, stone, sand, mud!
* Stand in the rain or under a cool shower!
* Tend to indoor or outdoor plants. * Open a window and take deep breaths, especially first thing in the morning.
* Go out for an early morning walk and listen out for the sounds of nature. If it’s a noisy environment, listen to the sounds of nature through your headphones.
* Go for a hike.
* Eat Root Chakra food and try out new recipes.
* Play your favourite soundtrack and dance around your home/space.
* Go to sleep to the sound of rain, thunderstorms, waterfalls or waves.
* Enjoy a relaxing foot bath with Epsom salt. Add essential oils to the water.

* Enjoy a foot massage or a pedicure.
* Practice yoga, breath techniques and meditation.
* Put on a red abstract background video on your laptop or tv screen.
* Listen to Root Chakra guided meditations.
* Listen to Solfeggio frequency 396Hz to release fear, guilt or grief.
* Listen to Cosmic Octave 194.18Hz for grounding and stability
* Practice gratitude throughout the day. Say a quiet thank you when the bus arrives, when the traffic light goes in your favour, when you eat your food, when you spot your favourite flower, when you put on your comfy slippers. Say thank you to everything, especially the small things.

Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations should be said as often as possible, even if you don’t believe them to be true. Say them in your head or out loud or you can write them down. If you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, create an affirmation which states the opposite and repeat it three times. Words are powerful. If you’re able to, stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself how fabulous you are. You might feel uncomfortable, and some unwanted emotions may arise. If this happens, acknowledge it with little resistance and write it down in your journal.
Use any statements from ‘Balanced Root Chakra’ to create positive affirmations. You can make up your own, remembering to begin your statement with the words “I am…”, “I have…” or “I can…”. Always use the present tense, as if it is already happening.
* I am emotionally strong and full of confidence.
* I am safe, supported and protected.
* I am assertive and full of passion.
* I have a strong sense of belonging.
* I am open to all possibilities.
* I easily accept change.
* I am centred and grounded.
* I live a balanced and healthy life.
* All my basic needs are taken care of.
* I love, honour and respect myself.
