Welcome to the Throat Chakra ~ Vishuddha

In this instalment you will learn about the signs of a balanced and imbalanced Throat Chakra and discover ways to help keep your body in harmony and at ease. Always trust in your intuition, take only the information that feels right for you and leave the rest to one side. If you haven't already done so, you might want to start off by reading "Introduction - A beginners Guide to Chakra Balancing."

The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is located in the centre of your throat and the back of your neck. It is your chakra of communication - listening and speaking. Filling you with freedom, choice, knowledge and leadership. Connecting you to your personal truth. The Throat Chakra is represented by the colour blue and the element ether.

Signs of a Balanced Throat Chakra

When your Throat Chakra is balanced, you communicate your emotions and express your needs in healthy ways. You listen to others and honour their personal truth without judgement. You express kindness and compassion through your words and body language. You are open and honest in what you say and confidently speak your truth. You effectively communicate your thoughts and ideas.

Signs of an Imbalanced Throat Chakra

You can be overly talkative and not listen to others, or fear speaking and be excessively shy. You find it hard to express your emotions or express your needs clearly. You may struggle to verbalise your thoughts and find it hard to speak your truth. You might push your opinions onto others, tell lies or be unable to keep secrets. You may suffer from sore throat, sinuses, hearing problems and digestive problems.

Questions for your Throat Chakra

These are some questions you may wish to ask yourself:

Do I communicate my feelings in healthy ways?

Was I allowed to speak freely, growing up?

Did I have to shout to be heard?

Do I talk over other people?

Do others always talk over me?

What can I do to help overcome my shyness?

Why do I find it hard to speak my truth?

How can I express my emotions and needs clearly?

Throat Chakra Guided Meditation

State out loud or quietly to yourself: “I am open to receive messages and guidance.” Allow any thoughts, memories or emotions to rise to the surface with little resistance. If any thoughts are persistent, simply state, “I acknowledge you, thank you,” and bring your focus back to your breath. Once you have finished listening to the guided meditation, take a moment to sit and reflect on your experience.

Journal

Write down anything that came up during the guided meditation – thoughts, memories, sensations, feelings and emotions.

Here are some questions you may wish to ask yourself.

* How did I feel during this session?

* Did I discover anything new about myself?

* How can I verbalize my needs and feelings more clearly?

* Do I listen carefully when other people are speaking?

* Do I speak kindly of myself?

* Do I speak kindly of others?

* Do I have difficulties verbalizing my thoughts?

* Do I push my opinions onto others?

Referring back to the 'Signs of a Balanced Throat Chakra’ and 'Signs of an Imbalanced Throat Chakra’, write down anything that applies/resonates with you. Be completely honest with yourself.

Look back through your journal at notes you first made in "Introduction - A beginners Guide to Chakra Balancing." to see if anything resonates with the Throat Chakra. Take your time to focus on any issues. How would you advise your friend if they were to have had these same issues? Write this down. Often, we already have the answers. Always seek professional help if needed.

Spend at least three days, preferably more, focussing on your Throat Chakra, journaling anything that comes up over the days ahead. Remember, you cannot change your past, so what can you do to create changes as you move forward?

Below, you will find some ways to help support a healthy and balanced Throat Chakra, which in turn will help to bring more harmony to your overall well-being.

Feeding your Throat Chakra

Finding blue fruit and vegetables is not so easy, so in this case, focus on liquid foods such as smoothies, yoghurt, juices, soups and herbal teas, which are very soothing for the throat. Be mindful of sugar content in smoothies and juices. Ginger and lemon can be beneficial when you have a sore throat.

As you are eating your liquid food, imagine they are healing your body, with every mouthful. You can also state ‘I am sending love to my Throat Chakra. I choose to heal my body.’ Try creating a mantra that really resonates with you.

Essential Oils for the Throat Chakra

Lemon, Roman Chamomile, Vanilla, Spearmint, Cypress and Peppermint oils are very soothing for the Throat Chakra. Lavender oil can be used for all chakras.

Add a few drops to a room diffuser, to release the essential oils into the air. Mix with a carrier oil and gently rub onto your pulse points - wrist, inside elbows and behind your ears. Gently massage into your neck, throat and shoulders.

Light a blue or white candle to bring focus to your Throat Chakra. These can be scented or unscented. You can also use incense sticks or room sprays.

Crystals for the Throat Chakra

Light blue crystals are used to support the Throat Chakra. You can try Amazonite, Blue Kyanite, Blue Chalcedony and Angelite, which are all beautiful crystals. Clear Quartz is a powerful crystal that can be used for all chakras, either alone or with other crystals to amplify their affects.

You can hold a crystal in your hand or place it on or near your Throat Chakra, whilst meditating and anytime you need to focus. If you do not have crystals, you can visualise or imagine blue light surrounding you. If you have a special pebble or stone, you can use that instead of a crystal. As always, it’s all about your positive intentions.

Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations should be said as often as possible, even if you don’t believe them to be true. Say them in your head or out loud or you can write them down. If you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself, create an affirmation which states the opposite and repeat it three times. Words are powerful. If you’re able to, stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself how amazing you are. You might feel uncomfortable, and some unwanted emotions may arise. If this happens, acknowledge it with little resistance and write it down in your journal.

Use any statements from ‘Balanced Throat Chakra’ to create positive affirmations. You can make up your own statements. Statements can begin with the words “I am…”, “I have…” or “I can…”, although they don’t have to. As long as you use the present tense, as if it is already happening, it will have the same results.

*I speak my truth freely and with confidence.

*My voice is powerful and clear.

*I am honest about who I am.

*I speak with kindness and compassion.

*I am filled with choice, freedom and knowledge.

*I am a great communicator.

*I can speak for myself and others.

*I listen intently when others are speaking.

*My voice is my power.

*I am empowered to speak my truth.
